Robert "Bob" Tarr Obituary

Robert “Bob” James Tarr entered into the presence of the Lord for an eternity in Heaven on Sunday, May 28, 2023.
He was born on January 30, 1935, to the late Fedderman and Margaret (Wharton) Tarr. He was raised by his grandparents Less and Sadie Merritt after his mother passed away when he was just four years of age. Bob graduated from Chincoteague High School with the class of 1952. After graduation, he worked at the Naval Base at Wallops Island. Bob served his country in the United States Army from 1957-1963. Later, he moved to Baltimore to be near his father and started working at AT&T, where he began as a technician and eventually moved up to become an engineering supervisor. Here he handled services for the State Department, Presidential services, and a number of other government agencies. After 30 years, Bob retired from AT&T and moved back to Chincoteague where he started Island Communications.
Bob loved playing the guitar and was with the band called Island Boys where they played on WBOC-TV and lots of other places on the shore in his younger days. He also played with Patsy Cline, Wanda Jackson, and Carl Smith. He was a member of Union Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and a member of the audio/visual committee. He also played in the church band for many years, and more recently with the praise band which he loved doing. He was also a member of Accomack Lodge #243 and Chincoteague Royal Arch Chapter #75.  He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Myrna (Jones) Tarr of Chincoteague Island, VA; two sons, Fred Tarr of Catonsville, MD, and Jeff Tarr (Ann) of Pasadena, MD; special daughter-in-law Michelle Tarr of Pasadena, MD; three stepchildren K. Clay Bunting (Roxanne) of Quinby, VA, Denise Savage (Jay), and Chris Bunting (Terrie Lynn) both of Chincoteague Island, VA; grandchildren, Megan Tarr, Russell Tarr, Chris Tarr, Courtney Selba, Lance Bunting, Brittany Bunting, Brooke Elliott, Jamie Bunting, Bryant Savage, Skyler Bunting, Trevor Bunting, and Christopher Fox; 15 great-grandchildren; and special cousin, Sue Romines.
He was predeceased by his parents, Fedderman and Margaret (Wharton) Tarr, grandparents, Less and Sadie Merritt, and special aunt Nina Holloway.
Bob spent his days on Earth being an everyday example of the love, compassion, and humility of Christ. He was a friend to everyone and known for his kind, gentle, and giving soul throughout the island. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
