Donald J. Barkman

Donald Barkman, 81, of Greenbackville, VA died Sunday October 28, 2018 after battling cancer for several years.

He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on December 15, 1936 to the late Frank and Helen (Anderson) Barkman.

Mr. Barkman was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and United States Army. His career included positions in pharmaceutical sales, mutual funds sales and several years in claims with State Farm Insurance. Post-retirement, he enjoyed working for air line transportation. He was active in both the American Legion and the Cursillo movement in Youngstown, Ohio and Pittsburgh, PA, and cherished his family. He was very active in Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church.

Mr. Barkman is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ellen, three daughters, Kristen Kloss (David) of Indianapolis, In, Amelia Fiser (Erich) of Papillion, NE and Paula Sebastian (Joseph) of Portland, OR; two sons, Karl Barkman (Linda) of Aliquippa, PA and Thomas Barkman of Pittsburgh, PA, a brother Edward Bernhard (Mary Kay) of Pittsburgh, PA; and 12 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews..

A celebration of life will be offered at 10 a.m. November 17 at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 6288 Church St., Chincoteague Island, VA 23336. Interment of Ashes will follow the mass.
