Iris Jester "Tinker" Durham

Iris Jester "Tinker" Durham, 78, of Chincoteague Island, VA passed away on March 6, 2018 at her residence.

She was born on Chincoteague Island, VA on January 14, 1940 to the late Leon Burris and Thelma (Birch) Jester. She was a graduate of Salem College and Goldie Beacon College. She was a retired social worker for Forsyth County. Tinker was thrilled to move back to her hometown of Chincoteague. She was able to spend her last days looking over the channel as it changed each day. She also enjoyed watching the birds and people walking down the street from her chair by the window.

Iris is survived by her husband Jim Durham of Chincoteague Island, VA; two daughters, Jeanne Sappenfield and her husband Scott of Merritt Island, FL, deAnne Iris Birch of Raleigh, NC; niece, Terri DuBose of Chincoteague Island, VA; nephew, Robby Fisher of Chincoteague Island, VA; great-niece, Erica Lewis of Chincoteague Island, VA; great-nephew, Zack Fisher of Chincoteague Island, VA; great great nephew Dylan Lewis of Chincoteague Island, VA; great great niece, Logan Lewis of Chincoteague Island, VA; extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Janet Fisher, and husbands, William Dodd Birch and William Troy Denny.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018, 2:00 pm at the Salyer Funeral Home, Inc., Chincoteague Island, VA with The Dr. Rev. Allen B. Hopkins, Sr., officiating.
