Richard J. Chagnon, 76, of Chincoteague Island, VA passed away on May 24, 2018 at PRMC in Salisbury, MD.
He was born in Goffstown, NH on March 21, 1942 to the late Roger and Rose (Blanchette) Chagnon
Richard finished high school in three years and started college in 1958 at Saint Anselm's College in Manchester and later attended the University of Ottawa. He joined the priesthood at the age of 22. He was a Priest from 1964-1977. He helped start the Right Management Counsultants/Manpower. He was a career counselor and did book reviews for Personnel Psychology. He was president of Bay Life Consulting Group and served as Executive Director of the Eastern Shore Literacy Council.
He was a member of Saint Andrew The Apostle Catholic Church. He was a key member of the Parish serving as Chair of the Parish Pastoral Council, an Organist, Bible Study Leader and much, much more.
Richard was the Executive Director and Registered Agent for the Hearts and Friends Foundation whose mission is to assist local people with extraordinary medical expenses. He also had an affinity for Veterans and current military by supporting the Chincoteague American Legion Post 159 and the annual Freedom Hunters hosting of service members to the Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge for the last seven years. His Favorite quote in life was " The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short, but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark." Michelangelo
Richard is survived by his two sons, Daniel J. Chagnon and his fiance' Heather Green of Browns Mills, NJ, David L. Chagnon and his wife Rita of Riverside, NJ; two granddaughters, Sierra B. Chagnon of Riverside, NJ, Olivia M. Green of Browns Mills, NJ; three grandsons, Gavin J. Chagnon of Wilmington, DE, Evan J. Chagnon of Riverside, NJ, Aidan J. Chagnon of Riverside, NJ; two sisters, Marie Duclos and her husband John of Manchester, NH, Anne-Marie Migalli of Manchester, NH; Brother, Dr. Jean Chagnon and his wife Cindy of Bedford, NH; sister-in-law, Claudia Tessier and her husband Peter Waegemann of Berlin, Germany; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Henri Chagnon, mother, Rose Ida Chagnon, wife, Lucille Chagnon, and brother-in-law, Nabil Migalli.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018, 11:00 am at the Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, Chincoteague Island, VA , with Father Michael Imperial, officiating.
