Barbara Bunting, 82, of Chincoteague, Virginia, passed into the arms of the Lord while surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease on October 4, 2024. Barbara was born on July 1, 1942, to John B. And Mildred Gordy in Temperanceville, Virginia. Barbara is survived by her husband of 64 years, Billy Ray Bunting, daughters Brenda Bernstein (Bryan) of Hebron, MD, and Teresa McCain (Bill) of Salisbury, MD, grandchildren Jeremy Bernstein, Rachel Forte (Eric), and Caitlin McCain(Connor), great-grandchildren Tucker and Layton Forte, sister Peggy Palmer (Bruce) and brother James Gordy. Barbara is also survived by several nieces and nephews. After graduating from Atlantic High School in 1960, she married the love of her life in October of 1960 and moved to Chincoteague, Virginia, where she began to raise her family. Barbara’s passion was her family and her home. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy. Barbara worked at Chincoteague High School for 30 years, starting in the library and then as the secretary to the principal. Barbara ran the school office as she did her home, like a well-oiled machine. Barbara was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Chincoteague, Virginia. Funeral services will be held at Union Baptist Church in Chincoteague, Virginia, at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 7th, with Rev. Kevin Eley officiating.
