Barbara Ann Reynolds

Barbara Reynolds, born in the bustling metropolis of Cashville, VA (population: probably her family and a cow or two), took her first breath on May 18, 1940, and spent the next 85 years proving that life is best lived with grit, laughter, and a bowling ball in hand.

She eventually made her way to Chincoteague, where she met and married the love of her life, Louis Reynolds. For 58 years, Louis was her partner in crime, her fishing buddy, and the man who never dared to out-bowl her. Barbara was a proud legionnaire for life, a woman who could organize a fundraiser, throw a strike, and still make it to the water before sunset. Hard work wasn’t just her ethic—it was her hobby.

Though she spent her later years just off the island in Atlantic, VA, Barbara would tell you (and anyone who’d listen) that she was a Chincoteaguer through and through. If you asked her where she was from, she’d probably answer with a story about ponies, salt air, and why the island folks “do it better.”

Barbara leaves behind her devoted husband Louis, her two sons, Todd Marr and Donald Rice, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a legacy of laughter, resilience, and a stubborn refusal to sit still. She’s now reunited with her four sisters—Ruth, Paige, Marie, and Francis—where we’re sure they’re already planning a heavenly bowling league and arguing over who gets the first strike.

Barbara didn’t just live life—she bowled it, sailed it, and worked it hard. So, raise a glass and remember her with a smile. Because if Barbara taught us anything, it’s that life’s too short not to laugh, love deeply, and always aim for a perfect game.  A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Salyer Funeral Home on Chincoteague Island, VA.
