Betty Jean Savage

Betty Jean Savage, 88, entered into the gates of Heaven in the presence of her Heavenly Father on June 10, 2024. Born on February 29, 1936, to the late William and Oneida Daisey, she was a “leap year” baby, a fact that she loved to tell people whenever she was asked about her birthday. 

Betty Jean’s true passion in life was being in dedication and service to the Lord in a number of different ministries. She was a Sunday School teacher for over 61 years, teaching all ages, from young children to adult women, in her beloved Ruth Sunday School class. Betty Jean was the director of Vacation Bible School, sharing the gospel with young children all across Chincoteague for over 24 years. She also was a member of the Chancel Choir and led the Youth and Baptist Women Choir. Betty Jean also worked with members of the church to deliver meals to those who were shut-in and sick.

 Betty Jean is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Terry Savage of Chincoteague, VA; one son, Jay Savage (Denise); one granddaughter, Brooke Savage; one grandson, Bryant Savage, all of Chincoteague, Virginia; and six great-grandchildren Elijah Elliott, Ian Elliott, RJ Savage, Carter Savage, Thatcher Elliott, and Brynlee Savage. As well as several nieces and nephews. 

Betty Jean loved the Lord with all her heart, and anyone she spoke with, she always talked about how good God had been to her in this life. While she will be greatly missed, the family has blessed assurance that they will see her again in the presence of Jesus for all eternity.

A funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 13th, 2024, at Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague Island, VA, at 2 PM. Interment will be held at John Taylor Cemetery, Temperanceville, VA.
