Bruce Creighton Frizzell Sr

Bruce Creighton Frizzell Sr., 79, of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Bruce was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on May 9, 1947, to the late Roy Elmer and Mary Florence Frizzell.

Bruce was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty, whom he deeply loved and missed. He is survived by his son, Bruce Creighton Frizzell Jr., and his wife, Marcia, of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; his daughter, Marie Woodson, and her husband, Chris, of Mineral, Virginia; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his brother, David Frizzell, and his wife, Valda; along with extended family, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

Bruce was a devoted father, grandfather, family man, and friend whose quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering love left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. He found joy in fishing, hunting, and spending time with those he loved.

Bruce devoted more than 40 years to protecting our nation's forests and natural resources. Throughout his distinguished career with the Virginia Division of Forestry, the U.S. Forest Service, and Marine Corps Base Quantico, he earned the respect of colleagues and the communities he served. His exceptional leadership, dedication to conservation, and commitment to public service were recognized with the United States Marine Corps Commendation for Meritorious Civilian Service. Upon his retirement in 2011, the Virginia General Assembly formally commended him through House Joint Resolution No. 145 for his exemplary career and distinguished service to the Commonwealth and the nation.

Bruce's greatest legacy is the love he gave his family and friends. His guidance, compassion, and quiet example will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family extends its sincere gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and caregivers who cared for Bruce during his illness, as well as to everyone who offered prayers, kindness, and support during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Bruce's honor.  In accordance with his wishes, Bruce was cremated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Salyer Funeral Home, Inc., Chincoteague Island, Virginia. Condolences may be shared online at www.salyerfh.com. The family is planning a Celebration of Life this fall at All Hallows Episcopal Church, Snow Hill, MD.
