CW2 Richard Charles Rodgers, Sr., 79, of Chincoteague Island, VA went to be with his Lord, Sunday, June 14th, 2009 at his residence.
Richard was born in Chincoteague, Virginia on April 6, 1930, the son of the late Howard and Nellie (Tatem) Rodgers.
He was a member of Union Baptist Church Chincoteague Island, VA, Baptist Men Choir, teacher of Ready Sunday School Class, Director of Baptist Men, RA Director for 10 years, and Deacon. He was also a member of Accomack Lodge #243, VFW, and American Legion Post # 159. He served in the U.S. Army as a CW2. He worked as a Computer Programmer at CSC
Richard is survived by his wife Linda of Chincoteague, VA; six children Richard Charles Rodgers Jr. and his wife Sharon of Baltimore, MD, Susan Rodgers McIntire and her husband Michael of Sunnyside, WA, Sandra Rodgers Barrett and her husband Mark of Chincoteague, VA, Ronald Christopher Rodgers and his wife Ginger of Rimersburg, PA, William Mason Melvin of Chincotegue, VA, and Lisa L. Hickman and her husband John of Chincoteague, VA and one brother William Howard Rodgers and his wife Ann of Onancock, VA. He also has 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren,several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral Service will be held at Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague Island, VA, at 2 PM on Thursday, June 18th, with Rev. Kevin Eley and Rev. Bob Reese officiating.
Friends are invited to call Wednesday 7-9 PM. at Salyer Funeral Home, Inc.
Lodge Service will be held at 7:30 PM Wednesday at Salyer Funeral Home, Inc..
Interment will be in John W. Taylor Memorial Cemetery Temperenceville, VA.
