Calvin Elder Barrett

Calvin Elder Barrett, 89, of Chincoteague Island, VA passed away on  September 10, 2022 surrounded by his loving family at his residence.  He was born on Chincoteague Island, VA on September 14, 1932 to the late William and Christine (Thornton) Barrett. He was a member of Union Baptist Church where he was a past Deacon and member and teacher of Ready Sunday School Class.  He served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves for over 42 years.  He owned and operated alongside his wife, Bonnie, Barrett Market on Chincoteague Island, VA. Calvin is survived by his loving spouse of 69 years, Bonnie Sue Barrett of Chincoteague Island, VA; Son, Bill Barrett and his wife Pam of GA; Four Granddaughters, Julie Green and her husband James of GA, Rachel Trayer and her husband Kyle of GA, Kara Hess and her husband Eric of PA, Angela Hess and her husband Ethan of GA; Sister, Connie Kay White of Chincoteague Island, VA; several nieces and nephews . He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Kenny Barrett and Mark Barrett. Visitation will be held Monday, September 12, 2022, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Salyer Funeral Home, Inc., Chincoteague Island, VA. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, 2:00 pm at the Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague Island,VA, with Rev. Kevin Eley, officiating. Burial will take place in the John W. Taylor Memorial Cemetery in Temperanceville, VA immediately after church service with military honors. Flowers accepted or donations may be made to Union Baptist Church on Chincoteague Island, VA.
