Charles “Chuck” Richard Jacob, also known as “Whiz,” born on November 6, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on November 20, 2024. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard E. Jacob and Marjorie J. Jacob, and his beloved wife, Carol, who passed just a year prior. He is survived by his children and their families: Michael Jacob and his wife Cameron, Melissa Haymond and her husband Robert, and James Jacob and his wife Lauren. His memory lives on through his five grandchildren: Jacob, Natalie, Sophia, Mallory, and Morgan. Chuck is also survived by his sister, Kathi Hasfjord, and nephews, Geoffrey and Cameron.
Chuck spent his childhood in Winnetka, Illinois, and enlisted in the Army in 1964. He attended Florida Tech University, earning his Bachelor of Science in Engineering. On a sunny day in Florida, while on the beach, he met Carol, and they married in 1970. The journey of their life together began in many beautiful places throughout Florida, where all their children were born. In the mid-80s, they relocated to Williamsburg, VA, until eventually settling on Chincoteague Island, VA. Chuck’s engineering career provided many opportunities in his life, and he retired after he spent two years living and working in Iraq during the War on Terror. He was also a devoted member of St Andrew’s (the Apostle) Roman Catholic Church on Chincoteague Island, Virginia, and was a member of the Masonic Temple.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, February 1, 2024, at Salyer Funeral Home on Chincoteague Island. Contributions to the funeral, charitable donations, or flowers are all equally appreciated and welcomed.
