Coach Sawyer Mears

Mr. Oscar Sawyer Mears Sr, 88, of Chincoteague Island, VA. went to be with the Lord, Sunday, November 29th, 2009 at University of Maryland Medical Center,Baltimore , MD.
Sawyer was born in Chincoteague,VA on April 13, 1921 , the son of the late Thomas and Isabelle (Thornton) Mears.
He was a member of Union Baptist Church Chincoteague Island, VA, Anglers Sunday School Class, Mens Choir, Chancel Choir, and Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company.
He worked as a Teacher, Assistant Principal, and Coach for Chincoteague High School for many years.
He was the widower of Dorothy Mears.
He is survived by a son, Sawyer Mears Jr. and his wife Terre of Chincoteague, Va and two grandsons Robby and Keyen Mears of Chincoteague, VA, a bother-in-law, Harold Smith and his wife Camille of New York, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral Service will be held at Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague Island, VA, at 2 PM on Thursday, December 3rd, with Rev. Kevin Eley officiating.
