Connie White Obituary

With a significant void in our hearts, we announce the passing of Connie Kay White, 84 years old, of Chincoteague, VA. She passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, at Hartley Hall in Pocomoke City, Maryland. Connie was a Christmas present born on December 25, 1941, to the late Christine (Thornton) Barrett and William Barrett of Chincoteague.

Connie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Ernest Lee White, on June 13, 2020.

Connie was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed painting, decorating for holidays, caring for her home, traveling with her friends, and being the historian of the family.

Connie loved Chincoteague and growing up on Ridge Road with her parents and siblings. Their home was always an active one with visits from church friends and patrons of her father's neighborhood general store.

Connie was preceded in death by her three brothers: Mark Barrett, Kenneth Barrett (Kenny), and Calvin Barrett.

Connie and Ernest had one joy-filled daughter, Penny. Connie often retold the story of Penny's birth and the inspiration for her name from the 1936 song "Pennies from Heaven." Penny would add more to Connie's purse when she and her husband, Allen F. Barr, Jr., welcomed grandchildren Tiffany and Ryan.

As Connie's fortunes kept falling, she was blessed as the family continued to grow with the additions of grandson-in-law Jeffrey F. Stevens, granddaughter-in-law Sarah (Cunningham) Barr, and son-in-law Robert D. Bolding. Her door swung wide to allow the tread of great-grandchildren Jeffrey F. Stevens, Jr, Christian Stevens, Bronson Stevens, Ryan Allen Barr, Jr, and Elsie Mae Barr.

As "Pennies from Heaven" reminds us, "If you want the things you love, you must have showers," to love someone deeply, you risk experiencing the loss of them. We are currently experiencing showers, but will trade them for a lifetime of the "sunshine and flowers" that Connie left behind in the garden of our childhood and memories.

Join family and friends to honor Connie’s life at a graveside service at Thornton Cemetery on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
