Darlene Anne (Cherrix) Wetherington

Darlene Anne (Cherrix) Wetherington was born on July 15, 1940, to Mr. Homer L. Cherrix Sr. (Jake) and Rowena Virginia (Melvin) Cherrix on Chincoteague Island, VA.

Darlene passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on May 17, 2026.

Darlene married Daniel Wetherington on March 17, 1962. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Cheyne (Wetherington) Adams; granddaughter, Heather Petrillo; parents, Homer and Rowena Cherrix; and grandparents, Laura and Robert Taylor, and Mary Melvin. Darlene is survived by her daughters, Megan (Wetherington) Peoples and Gina Wetherington; brother, Homer (Jake) Cherrix Jr (Debbie); sisters, Mary Laura Roberts (Ricky) and Lynn Johnson (Bobby); grandchildren, Marquita Olavarria (Natasha), Daniel Petrillo (Carissa), Melissa Rohan (Kevin), Christopher Peoples, Kaitlyn Peoples, Trace Adams, Ashlyn Morgan, and Amber Morgan; as well as great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Darlene was a graduate of Chincoteague High School and was an avid golfer. She will be missed by many. Funeral services will be at Christ United Methodist Church on Chincoteague Island, VA, at 2 pm on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, with visitation one hour prior.
