Mr. David M. Briggs passed away on Jan. 25, 2025. He was born in Browns Gap, near Grottoes, on March 25, 1951. He was moved to Pennsylvania as an infant, where he grew up and was educated. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 159, Chincoteague.
He was the past post chaplain, a first vice commander, and post commander. He was named Legionnaire of the Year in 2012. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Briggs; his son, Gregory Briggs; his stepdaughters, Faye Mayne and her husband, Ronnie, of Odenton, Md., Jean Payne and her husband, Mark, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Bonnie Glover and her husband, Lonnie, of Severn, Md.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald L. Briggs; his mother, Fern Briggs; his daughter, Adrien Bradbury; and his brother, Jeffrey Briggs. Memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Salyer Funeral Home, Inc., on Chincoteague Island, VA.
