David Davis Obituary

David Vernon Davis, 90, of Chincoteague Island, VA, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2011 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital, Nassawadox, VA.

Dave was born in Briceville, TN on July 2, 1920, the oldest child of the late Lutie (Edwards) and David E. Davis.

He was a member and former deacon of Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague Island, VA, and taught the Anglers Bible Class for over 50 years. He was a member of Accomack Lodge #243 AF & AM.
He retired in 1982 as a Procurement Officer with Wallops Flight Facility. He served as a Second Class Petty Officer (Boatswains Mate) in the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed at Wallops Island during World War II.

He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Eleanor E. Davis. Surviving are his son, David L. Davis and daughter-in-law, Nancy B. Davis of Chincoteague Island, VA; a grandson, David L. Davis (Beth Miksovic) of Richmond, VA; a great-granddaughter, Eleanor A. Davis, of Richmond, VA; three sisters, Mary Katherine Seiber (J.D. Seiber) of Griffith, IN, Margaret Irene Hobbs of Knoxville, TN, and Doris Deanna Ward (Rex Ward) of Knoxville, TN; and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Edwin Davis and Morris Davis.

Friends are invited to call Monday, May 2, 2011 from 7-9 PM at Salyer Funeral Home, Inc., Chincoteague Island, VA.

Funeral Services will be held at Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague Island, VA, at 2 PM on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, with Rev. Kevin Eley and Rev. William L. Gregory officiating.

Interment will be in Mechanics Cemetery, Chincoteague Island, VA.
