Denver Harvey "Denny" Mears, 81, of Chincoteague Island, VA passed away on May 5, 2021 at his residence.
He was born on Chincoteague Island, VA on March 13, 1940 to the late Harvey and Lillie (Bowden) Mears.
He was a member of Union Baptist Church and Ready Bible Class. He was enlisted in the United States Coast Guard from 1959 until 1961. He continued his service as a Coast Guard reservist until 1963. After his service in the Coast Guard, he went on to manage numerous contracts with his father, Harvey, at the NASA Wallops Station and NASA Wallops Flight Center. In 1978 he began a new career as a carpenter working with several local contractors until he retired in 1998.
Denny is survived by his loving spouse of 61 years, Thelma Chase Mears of Chincoteague Island, VA; daughter Michelle and her husband Jeff Stacey of Henderson, Nevada; son, Denny Mears and his wife Angie of Horntown, Va; sister, Estelle Robinson of Lexington, SC; brother Delmas Mears and his wife Teresa of Chincoteague, Va; three grandchildren, Kylie Mears, Dustin Mears (wife Brooke) and Kyrstin Fierst (husband Zach);
great granddaughter, Anastasia Fierst; numerous nieces and nephews. We will miss his sense of humor and love of people.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021, 10:00 am at the Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague Island, VA, with Rev. Kevin Eley, Rev. Maurice Enright, officiating.
Burial will take place in the John W. Taylor Memorial Cemetery in Temperanceville, VA.
