Donald Thornton Obituary

Donald Lee Thornton, 78, of Chincoteague Island, VA passed away Wednesday, November 2nd, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC.
Donald was born on Chincoteague Island, Virginia on January 29, 1933, the son of the late Annie D. (Daisey) and Kendall J. Thornton.
He was a member of Union Baptist Church and the Ready Sunday School Class,Chincoteague Island, VA. He was also a member of the Sons of The American Legion Post # 159. Donald was a waterman for most of his life working with his father on the Naomi and Adelphia. He also worked for Army Corp. of Engineers.
He is predeceased by his parents, his two wives, Isabell D. Thornton and Sybil Bush Thornton, brother, Stanley E. Thornton, sister, M. Elizabeth Birch, stepchildren, Burt Lunn and Judy McKinley, nephew, Steven C. Birch, and a niece, Dorothy B. Casper.
He is survived by his sister, Jaunita Booth of Wildwood, NJ; sister-in-law, Ann Thornton of Chincoteague Island, VA; stepson Larry Thornton and his wife Nina of Oak Hall, VA; five step grandchildren, Ray, Candy, Sherri, John, TJ; six nieces and nephews, Kenneth W. Birch of Delmar, DE, Lucille Birch Gohl of Greenwood, IN, Judy Wilgus of Wildwood, NJ, Calvin Booth of Wildwood, NJ, Harry Stanley Thornton of Chincoteague Island, VA, Linda Ann Thornton of New Church, VA; several great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
To know Donnie was to love him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was kind, loving, and generous.
Friends are invited to call Sunday 7- 9 PM. at Salyer Funeral Home, Inc.
Funeral Service will be held at Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague Island, VA, on Monday, November 7,at 2 PM with Rev. Kevin Eley officiating.
Interment will be held at Daisey Cemetery on Church St. on Chincoteague Island, VA.
