Effie Elizabeth Williams, 89, of Greenbackville, VA, passed away Wednesday, August 17th, at Snow Hill Nursing Home, Snow Hill, MD.
Effie was born in Greenbackville, VA, on September 17, 1921, the daughter of the late Sarah C. (Taylor) and James M. Marshall, Sr.
Effie was a member of Union United Methodist Church, Greenbackville, VA, where she had been a Sunday School teacher, Junior Choir director, and Adult Choir member. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women. Effie was a charter member of Greenbackville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, serving as its first president. She retired as Greenbackville Postmaster.
Effie was the widow of Robert Milton Williams, originally of Chincoteague Island, VA. She is survived by a daughter, Esther Williams Floyd of Richmond, VA; four grandchildren: Teresa Selby and her husband, Robert, of Greenbackville, Robert Hill and his wife, Jamie, of Greenbackville, Lori Floyd-Miller and her husband, Stuart, of Mechanicsville, VA, and Charlie Floyd and his wife, Elizabeth, of Richmond; three great-grandchildren: Bobby Selby and his wife, Tammy, of Parksley, VA, John Selby of Greenbackville, and Marshall J. Miller of Mechanicsville; three great-great-grandchildren: Robbie and Bradley Fetterman and Tracy Selby, all of Parksley; sister, Norma Merritt of Chincoteague; sister-in-law, Lois Marshall of Pocomoke City, MD; son-in-law, Arthur "Red" Hill and his wife, Etta Lou of Greenbackville. Effie is also survived by several sisters- and brothers-in-law as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Estelle Williams Hill; an infant son; stepmother, Rhoda Marshall; brother, James Marshall; and brother-in-law, Bill Merritt.
Friends are invited to call Saturday 1-2 PM at Union United Methodist Church, Greenbackville.
Funeral service will be held at Union United Methodist Church, Greenbackville, at 2 PM on Saturday, August 20th, with Rev. Jack Pruitt officiating.
Interment will be held at Greenbackville Cemetery.
