Fay Jones Birch, 94, of Temperanceville, VA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at her residence.
Fay was born on Chincoteague Island, VA, on June 5, 1932, the daughter of the late John Burton Jones and Elsie Mildred Quillen Jones. She was a member of Union Baptist Church.
In her early days, she was proud of the opportunity to work with Dr. Shelley. Then, she dedicated her life to raising her three children. She created a warm, welcoming environment. Anyone who stopped by on Sunday was obligated to stay for Sunday dinner. She was a Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy enthusiast. She passed her time by putting jigsaw puzzles together, watching wildlife, solving her puzzle books, and keeping watch on the neighborhood. She also enjoyed the outdoors and keeping her yard looking nice and tidy.
She is survived by her daughter, Faith Ann Lewis of Temperanceville, and son, John William Birch Sr. and family; grandchildren, Michael J. Johnson Jr. and his wife Sherry of Accomac, VA, Jason S. Johnson and his wife Beth of Melfa, VA, Amy Sawyer and her husband Stephen of Painter, VA. John P. Lewis and his wife, Susie of Atlantic, VA; several great-grandchildren, Tyler Johnson, Riley Johnson, Dominic Sawyer, Christian Sawyer, Sahara Sawyer, and Hailey Lewis; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 61 years, William “Bill” Birch; a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Johnson; 4 Siblings, Ralph Jones, Elizabeth Clouser, Ruth Godwin, and Arthur Jones; and loving son-in-law, Jimmy Lewis.
Funeral service will be held graveside at Downing Cemetery in Oak Hall, VA, at 2 pm on Tuesday, June 30th.
