It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Wayne Settle, born in Minden, WV, on June 27, 1957. He went to be with the Lord surrounded by his loved ones in New Church, VA, on September 7, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Susan Settle. He is also survived by his children, Charlie Holcomb, Michael Settle, Brandy Settle, Jamie Settle, and Teena Bailey. He is also survived by sisters Joyce Neil and Sandy Moses and sister-in-law Joyce Settle, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, James and Alice Settle, brothers Jimmy and Marvin Settle, and sister Polly Nell.
Gary was a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan who never missed a game. He was the only one who could match his grandson, Matt- in the not-so-nice talk over a game. He also loved playing the card game Phase 10 with his family, which became very competitive, and Sue always beat everyone, every time. No matter how old the kids got, he always made time to sit down and talk over Sunday Family Dinners. He was also a lifetime member of the Atlantic Volunteer Fire Company and a long-time employee at Holly Farms/Tyson as a jockey driver. His dedication and work ethic lives on in his children, grandchildren, and every single life he touched. His dedication to his family & his wife, and his grandchildren & great children was unparalleled. He will be missed by everyone that ever came to know Gary. As a family, we peacefully know he is with the Lord and will be at peace. A Memorial Service to honor his life will be held on Satuday, October 5, 2024, at 2 pm at the Atlantic Firehouse. The family requests casual attire. Services in West Virginia are to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Atlantic Fire Department P.O. Box 207 Atlantic, VA 23303 Atlantic, Va. Services entrusted to Salyer Funeral Home, Inc. on Chincoteague Island, VA. Condolences may be made online at www.salyerfh.com
