Mr. Harry Scarborough Birch, 89, of Chincoteague Island, VA passed away Friday, October 22nd, 2010 at his residence.
Harry was born in Chincoteague, Virginia on October 7, 1921, the son of the late Leo and Cecile (Richardson) Birch.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 22 years and retired as an E-8. He also served thirteen years as an electrician for NASA.
He is survived by his wife Clara Birch of Chincoteague, VA; son Harry Kent Birch of Newport News, VA; a daughter Jan Birch Glading of Bridgeville, DE;step son Larry Hill of Atlanctic, VA; two grandchildren Josh Birch and his wife Lindsay of Newport News and Amanda Birch Puryear and her husband Paul of Smithfield, VA; four great grandchildren Wyatt Puryear, Logan Puryear, Sophia Puryear all of Smithfield, VA,and Jack Birch of Newport News; four sisters , Georgia Bloxom, Ruth Reed, Gail Horner all of Chincoteague, VA. Lois Wilgus of Williamsburg, VA; several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call Monday 7-9 PM. at Salyer Funeral Home, Inc.
Funeral Service will be held at Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague Island, VA, at 2 PM on Tuesday, October 26th, with Rev. Kevin Eley officiating.
Interment will be held at Downing Cemetery, Oak Hall, VA.
