James (Jay) Pronier, Jr., passed away on November 25, 2025, in Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, VA. Born in Nassawadox, VA, on September 30, 1959, he was the son of James Pronier, Sr., and Alice Ilene Marshall.
Jay was a lifetime member of the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company and worked at every carnival as long as his health permitted. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He was employed by several businesses on Chincoteague through the years, as well as by contractors at NASA.
Jay enjoyed NASCAR and football, especially the Dallas Cowboys.
Jay is survived by sisters Wendy Ainsworth and Geneva Rathbone, his aunt Lois Birch Gaskins, two nephews, and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and by Douglas Marshall, who was like a father to him.
Funeral services will be held at Salyer Funeral Home on Saturday, November 29, at 2:00 P.M., with Rev. Maury Enright and Rev. Kevin Wilson officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Daisey Cemetery on Church Street.
Services are entrusted to Salyer Funeral Home, Chincoteague, VA.
