With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Jefferson (Stevie, Steve) Floyd Stevens III, 70 years old, of Chincoteague, VA. He passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at home. He was born June 6, 1955, to the late Laura Elizabeth Riley and Jefferson Floyd Stevens, Jr., of Chincoteague.
Jeff was preceded in death by his best friend, soulmate, and wife of 51 years, Deborah Stevens, on June 19, 2025.
Jeff was a proud member of the “Long Blue Line,” always proudly representing his country as a Coast Guard veteran. Jeff was also a lifelong mechanic. If it had an engine, he could fix it, even planes! His many talents were evident to his close-knit family.
Jeff loved his family and spent hours at the dinner table over glasses of sweet tea, reminiscing about his children, courting Debbie, childhood island times, his parents and siblings, and the military. When he wasn’t visiting family, he was on trips with them four-wheeling in the mountains or sailing with them out on a boat.
Jeff is survived by his three siblings: Ronald James Stevens (Ronnie), Ruby Nelson Stevens (Ruby Etta), and Gregory Wayne Stevens (Greg).
Jeff and Debbie’s abundant family began with their children Stephanie, Jeffrey (Jeff), Donald (Donnie), and James (Jamie).
Jeff was a wonderful father-in-law to Gene, Tomalea, Rebecca (Becky), and Tiffany.
He was a dedicated grandfather to Annie, Gene Jr, Jeffrey Jr, Christian, Bronson, Kaelin, Daniel, Destin, Trinity, Jaedin, Kimber, Kristen, Mikaela, James Robert (JR), and Thomas Jefferson (TJ).
Additionally, Jeff was decorated with the title of great- grandfather to Easton, Ryder, Katherine, Kira, Emryn, Carson, Tobias (Toby), and Beau.
Debbie and Steve always had room at the table for more to love and were happy to welcome Destry, Phillip, Lauren, Brianna, Jenna, and Taylee.
Jeff lived a full life. He attended to his post as the head of the Stevens family, a proud veteran, and dedicated Christian until he was called Home.
“Fair winds and following seas, Shipmate. You stand relieved.”
A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held at the Union Baptist Church, 6365 Church Street, Chincoteague, VA, on Tuesday, May 5th at 2:00 p.m. Please wear red, white, and blue to honor Jeff and his military service.
