Jimmy Wayne Whealton, age 73, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025.
He was born August 11, 1952, in Nassawadox, Virginia, and was a member of Union Baptist Church on Chincoteague Island, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Rae Whealton of Chincoteague Island, to whom he was married for 35 years; his daughter, Laura Williams, and her husband, Thomas; and his grandchildren, Kiersten, James, and Camren.
He is also survived by his brothers, Morris Whealton and his wife, Barbara; his twin brother, Howard Whealton and his wife, Betsy; and Elvie Whealton and his wife, Ann, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Lee Whealton.
The marshes and waterways shaped Jimmy’s life and work, serving not only as his livelihood but as his way of life. A lifelong waterman, he spent countless hours on the water and was well known for guiding duck hunting trips. He also carved many duck decoys by hand, each one reflecting his lifelong bond to the Shore. Some of his most cherished time was spent simply riding with his brother Mossey, enjoying quiet moments and familiar roads.
He leaves a legacy carved not only in wood, but in the hearts of all who knew him.
There will be a memorial on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 2 pm at Union Baptist Church on Chincoteague Island, VA.
