Joan Taylor Flowers, 81, of Atlantic, passed away on February 28, 2025, at her home in Atlantic, VA. She was born in Willow Grove, PA, on March 21, 1943, to the late Andrew J. Taylor and Mary Grace (Marshall) Godwin. Joan was a member of the Atlantic Baptist Church and Atlantic Fire Company's Lady's Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, bowling, and gardening. She loved her family and was Daddy’s girl. Joan was a very talented basketball player, cheerleader, and dancer in school. As a mother, Joan was very involved in her children’s activities. Joan coached her son’s little league baseball team and her daughter’s cheerleading squad and was present for all extracurricular activities, including as a chaperone for trips. Joan is survived by her daughter, Bobbi Shumway; son, Jay Flowers; grandson, Travis Colbert; and beloved four-legged babies. She was preceded in death by her father, Andrew Jackson Taylor, and Mother, Mary Grace Godwin. Funeral services will be held graveside on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Downing Cemetery, Oak Hall, VA, with Rev. Maurice Enright officiating.
