John was born July 12, 1934 in Gloversville, N.Y., the son of Wilfred and Beatrice (Lair) Farrant
He graduated from Gloversville High School in June 1952. John attended the University of Richmond and graduated from the University of Texas (Austin) with degrees in Journalism and Drama.
He enlisted in the Army and was a cartographer with the 2nd Armored Division at Ft. Knox, Ky. and in Schweinfurt, Germany.
He wrote an economic newsletter for the Independent Truckers Association in Washington, D.C. for many years - living in Falls Church, VA.
He was a photographer and traveled widely taking his pictures.
Upon retiring, he moved to Chincoteague, VA, where he pursued his photography of wildlife at Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.
He performed in and directed many plays in Washington and Chincoteague.
John died September 19, 2009 at his home in Chincoteague.
He is survived by a brother Charles and his wife Marilyn of Alamogordo NM, a nephew Paul of Columbus OH, and a niece Susan Wallace of Davis CA. John was never married.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday October 4 at 2 PM on the beach at Assateague Island, near the north parking lot.
