John “Johnny” Thomas Nock, 60, of Chincoteague, passed away on September 26, 2024.
Johnny was a lifelong resident of Chincoteague, spending the majority of his 60 years on the Island. He graduated from Chincoteague High School in 1982, and some of his most cherished memories were participating in athletics. After school, he spent the majority of his time working various jobs on and near the Island, including the Landmark Crab House and Shucking House Café, when it was family-owned in the 1990s. Hobbies include landscaping, beachcombing, picking, yard sales, and listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Johnny was survived by his 5 children, Ashley Thornes (Paul) of Parksley, VA; Jordan Nock of Charlottesville, VA, Olivia Lazen (Zach) of Charlottesville, Adam Nock (Kristen) of Charlottesville and Gabe Nock (Skylar) of Atlantic, VA; 6 Granddaughters, Scarlett Thornes, Neko & Lux Nock, Maya Lazen, Raelynn and arriving soon Rowan Nock; 2 brothers, Wayne Nock and Paul Nock; one nephew and several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Johnny was predeceased by his parents, Bobby & Marrietta Nock, and his grandparents, Albert & Nancy Nock and Bob and Norma Hill, all of Chincoteague Island, Virginia.
Most of those who knew Johnny would say he had a huge heart and was a Free Bird. He was a Simple Man and lived his life to the sum of every Skynyrd Song. Yeah, You Got That Right, he always had Things Going On. He survived an accident in 2020; they said he wouldn’t, but he was Still Unbroken and, at the time, said, “I Ain’t The One.” To his family, he said, “I Need You,” and for the last couple of years, he was On The Hunt for that Saturday Night Special. He’d say, “Don’t Ask Me No Questions” and “Was I Right or Wrong”. However, there always comes a time when the Good Lord says, “Gimme Three Steps,” and he replies, “I’m Coming Home. To my Sweet Home. Now you all can Call Me The Breeze”. Rest Easy, Johnny Nock.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 pm on October 14th, 2024, at the Christ United Methodist Church on Chincoteague. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 6253 Church Street. Services entrusted to salyer Funeral Home, Chincoteague Island, VA.
