Joseph Yontz Sr, “Joe,” of Wallops Island, VA, Husband of Elizabeth Yontz, took his final ride into the sunset on October 23, 2025, surrounded by family at his home on Wallops Island.
Joe was born on June 20, 1942, to Kenneth & Mary (Kramer) Yontz in Harrisburg PA. He was a graduate of Bishop McDevitt, where he was on the school’s Swim and Boxing teams.
Joe was bigger than life and always lit up a room when he entered. People tended to gravitate towards him, and he loved his family and friends just as hard as he worked. Joe was always as quick with a witty comment as he was to help his Family, Brothers, and Sisters. Joe’s work ethic was unmatched. Whether it was driving the truck, working on the farm in York Springs or running his Charter Boat, he always put in 110% from dawn to dusk. Work hard, Play harder!
A truck driver for over 50 years, Joe loved shifting gears, talking on the radio, and telling stories. As an avid motorcycle rider, he and his Harley, along with Liz and her Harley, travelled all over the United States.
He was a member of the CCSC out of York, PA, and started the CCSC II on the Eastern Shore. He belonged to the Elks BPOE 1766 and Teamsters Local 776, and worked for Reese Transportation out of Pocomoke until his retirement. He was a Charter Boat Captain on his offshore boat, the Mizz Lizz.
In addition to his wife Liz, he leaves behind his children, Tonda White (Harry) of Harrisburg PA, Terri Taylor (Tad) of Newville PA, Joe Yontz Jr. (Cathy) of Dover PA, Adrian (Candi) of New Church VA, his pups Saydee and Alice, 17 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great Great Grandchildren, his Brother Jeff Yontz (Dee) of Hampton VA and Sister-in-Law Mary Lazusky (David Yontz) of Rossville PA. He was preceded in death by his Parents and Brothers, Kenneth F Yontz, David Yontz, Kenneth L Yontz, and his loving Mother-in-Law, Helen Gouchie.
There are no words that can express how many hearts and lives Joe has touched and impacted over his 83 years, or the immense hole he has left behind in the hearts of all those who love him.
Ride on Joe, Ride on Dad, Ride on Poppy, Ride on Rooter, Ride on Brother.
Per Joe’s wishes, there will be no service at this time.
