Julia (Judy) Roe Bowden, a resident of Temperanceville, VA and formerly of Edgewater, MD passed away on October 8, 2022 after complications from a stroke, she passed peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones.
Judy was born in Washington D.C. on September 18, 1944 and married Robert (Bob) D. Roe, Sr. in 1962. Bob and Judy lived in Edgewater, MD until 1987.
In the mid-1970s, the family started vacationing on Chincoteague. Both Judy and Bob fell in love with Chincoteague so much that they decided to quit their jobs with the Federal Government, relocate to Chincoteague, and open Roe's Vacation Services on the island, eventually they took over Vacation Cottages. Chincoteague was Judy's happy place! After Bob passed and until she retired in 2012, Judy continued running Vacation Cottages with her long-time friend, Virginia (Lee) Backfisch,
Judy met Howard Bowden in 2011 and they were married in 2013. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Judy is survived by her husband Howard Bowden, four children, Robert Roe Jr. (Stacie), Cheryl Duckett (Larry), Jeff Roe, and Karen Murphy (Mike) along with eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, a brother, Robert Lynch and sister, Sally Sullivan (Joe); two step sons David Bowden Sr. (Sandra), Derrick Bowden (Sandra); five step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; three brother-in-laws, Richard Roe, Doug Bowden (Wanda), Tommy Bowden (Yvonne); sister-in-law, Mary Alice Birch (Bill); several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her first husband Robert Roe, Sr. (1999), her parents, Martin (2010) and Margaret Lynch (1997) and brothers Edward (1986) and William (2019) Lynch.
Viewing will be held on October 12th from 7pm to 9 pm at Salyer Funeral Home, Inc., Chincoteague, VA. Mass of Christian burial will be offered on October 13th, at 2 pm at Union Baptist Church, 6365 Church St, Chincoteague, VA with Rev. Kevin Eley officiating. Interment will follow immediately thereafter at the John W. Taylor Cemetery, 31189 Temperanceville Rd, Temperanceville, VA.
