Julian Alfred White, 87, of Chincoteague, VA went to be with the Lord, Sunday. January 16, 2011 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born on Chincoteague Island, VA on July 3, 1923, the son of the late James E. and Sallie (Holloway) White. Julian attended the local schools and then enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He went into Army Air Corps Technical School to become a radio operator/mechanic and served in the Pacific campaign in W.W.II, specifically in New Guinea.
After he was discharged from the service he went to funeral school in Philadelphia and worked for Clark Funeral Home for a short time. He then worked for the Navy followed by NASA. He retired in 1990 after working for the government for over 50 years. He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church and sang in the men's choir many years ago. He was also active with the Masonic Lodge #243 A. F. & A.M. for 65 years, achieving the position of Past Master; Malta Commandry #24 for 62 years; Royal Arch Chapter #75 for 62 years; the American Legion Post # 159 for 65 years; and worked at the carnival for the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company for 61 years.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marianne Carter White, a daughter Allison E. White Cohen and her husband, Jeffrey Cohen, of Arlington, a stepson William D. Carter III and his wife Amy Taylor Carter of Chesapeake, a grandson Will D. Carter IV of Roanoke, two sisters Jeanette Phipps and Kathryn Ewell both of Chincoteague and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Virginia Adams and Nola Kleminger.
Friends are invited to call Monday 7-9 PM at Salyer Funeral Home, Inc. in Chincoteague, VA with a Masonic Service to be held at 7:30 PM.
Funeral Service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, Chincoteague, VA at 2 PM on Tuesday, January 18th, with the Rev. Travis DeLoach officiating.
Interment will be held at John W. Taylor Memorial Cemetery in Temperanceville, VA.
