LaRaine Lewis Bowles, 73, of Chincoteague Island, VA, passed away on June 3rd, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. LaRaine was born on March 28th, 1953, in Pennsylvania to the late John & Kathryn Lewis. Laraine was predeceased by both her parents, her sisters Diann & Debbie, along with her husband James Bowles & her faithful companion Jesse James. LaRaine is survived by her daughter, Crystal Fisher; grandson, Zack Fisher; sisters, Linda Meyers of Seaford, DE, and Ramona Birch of Chincoteague, VA; brother, George Lewis of Winchester, VA; and brother-in-law, Willis Dize of Chincoteague. Also surviving her are a stepdaughter, Laura Hackney of Newport News & a stepson, Jonathan Bowles of Chesapeake, VA. She is also survived by several nieces & nephews, special friends Kathy Savage, Tammy Mitchell & Robby Fisher, as well as numerous others that were part of her life.
LaRaine was a retired postmaster of 27 ½ years, a Chincoteague Police Dispatcher for 14 years, a Dispatcher at NASA for several years, & part time cashier & food prepper at Capt. Zack’s Seafood, the job she loved to hate!
Laraine was a member of the Accomack Chapter #62 Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She loved spending time at the beach or pool with friends, music & dancing! Laraine enjoyed gardening & always had something cooking to share with the whole neighborhood.
The funeral service will be held on June 10th, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Union Baptist Church in Chincoteague, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Riverside Hospice Care of the Eastern Shore, P.O. Box 615, Onley, VA 23418.
