Lillie Boothe Obituary

Lillie Mae Colona Boothe, 90, of Chincoteague, wife of the late Charles Frederick Boothe (Cubby), died peacefully on September 28, 2010, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital, Nassawadox, VA surrounded by her family. Lillie lived a full and meaningful life and was ready to rest in the arms of God.

Born May 20, l920 in Chincoteague, VA, Mrs. Boothe was the daughter of the late Norman and Rowena Daisey Colona. Her parents passing at an early age, Mrs. Boothe raised her younger siblings amidst the Great Depression. After graduating Chincoteague High School in 1937, she was a homemaker, a small business owner managing a grocery store, and Cafeteria Manager at Chincoteague Elementary School, where she served for almost 40 years, retiring only at 75. Mrs. Boothe resided on Chincoteague her whole life and was a devoted member of Union Baptist Church, including Ladies Aid, Rainbow Sunday School Class, and WMU. She enjoyed her High School Class Reunions through the years with her former classmates. Lillie was a strong woman with a great sense of humor who loved life and loved her family.

Mrs. Boothe is survived by two daughters and two sons, Mr. Norman F. Boothe, SCPO, USCG Ret. and wife Juanita of Emerald Isle, NC; Ms. Nadine B. Estes of Wallops Island, VA; Mr. Terrell E. Boothe and wife Linda of Chincoteague, VA; and Mrs. Mary Ann Poythress and husband, Ron, of Raleigh, NC.

She is survived by ten grandchildren: Lisa Colie of Seven Springs, NC, Norman Boothe of Elmhurst, IL, Douglas Estes, PhD, and wife Noël of San Jose, CA, Stephanie Bailey and husband Tony of Chincoteague, VA, Eric Estes of Raleigh, NC, Rebecca Walker, MD, of San Francisco, CA, Jason Estes and wife Su-Anne of Raleigh, NC, Kelly Horner and husband Matthew of Chincoteague, VA, Robert Walker of San Clemente, CA, and Rachel Poythress of Raleigh, NC. And seven great-grandchildren: Ryan Boothe and wife Ashley, Raven Colie, Sierra Colie, Lindsay Bailey, Megan Horner, Wyatt Estes, and Bridget Estes.

Mrs. Boothe is survived by a brother, Mr. Robert Colona and wife Shirley of Seaford, DE, their children Robert Colona of Seaford, DE and Mrs. Michelle Alvarez and husband Jorge of Houston, TX, along with their children, Garret, Robert, and Christian; and a nephew, Gene Graham, and family, of FL.

Mrs. Boothe was predeceased by a sister, Minerva Graham, and three brothers, Arthur Colona, Elmer Colona and Everett Colona.

A viewing was held on Friday, October 1, 2010 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Salyer Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague, VA with Pastors Douglas Estes, PhD and Dr. Kevin Eley officiating. Interment is at Mechanics Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Salyer Funeral Home, Chincoteague, VA.
