Louis Bitner Obituary

Louis E. Bitner, 85, of Chincoteague Island, VA went to be with the Lord, Saturday, February 25th, at his residence. .
Louis was born in Carlisle, PA on July 10, 1926, the son of the late Anna (Bowers) and William J. Bitner.
He was a member of Union Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, usher, sang in the Men's Choir, and was the first to work the sound system for the broadcast on Sunday mornings. He was also a member of Ready Sunday School Class. He served in the United States Coast Guard at the Assateague Coast Guard Station as one of the last Pony Patrol Riders. He served during WW II in the North Atlantic. He joined the United States Coast Guard Reserves and served for many years. In the early 60's, he was the first to build and manage Coastal Cable TV until retiring in 1989. He then went to work summers for the Park Service in maintenance for several years. He was one of the first to bring CB Radios to Chincoteague.
He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Bitner.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol Birch and her husband Jay of Chincoteague Island, Va, Valerie Baker and her husband Stewart of Chincoteague Island, VA; six grandchildren, Robin Taylor and her husband Edwin, Shannon Jones, Timothy Baker and his wife Lisa, Brandon Baker and his wife Pepper, Chris Birch, and Josh Birch; ten great grandchildren, Kyle, Chelsea, Kristen, Maranda, Hunter, Gary, Chandler, Whitney, Shaida, Stephen, and Zack; one great great grandchild, Carter; one brother-in-law, John Henry Howard and his wife Debbie of Chincoteague Island, Va; two sisters, Anna Marie Duncan of Carlisle, PA, Rosie Summers and her husband Barney of Camdenton, MO; many nieces,nephews, and cousins. He was also predeceased by five brothers, W. Clyde, John Gernard, H. Daniel, Donald V., Richard R. and two sisters, Hazel L. Minich and Betty Orner.
Friends are invited to call Tuesday 7-9 PM. at Salyer Funeral Home, Inc. in Chincoteague Island, VA.
Funeral Service will be held at Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague Island, VA, at 2 PM on Wednesday, February 29th, with Rev. Kevin Eley officiating.
Interment will be held at John W. Taylor Memorial Cemetery in Temperanceville, VA.
