Lynn Butler Matthews, 70, of Chincoteague Island, VA, passed away peacefully at her home on December 20, 2024. She was born on July 17, 1954, to the late Norma Hancock Butler and Rupert Butler.
In her Chincoteague High School days, she loved basketball with a passion. Her team was undefeated 62/0 for 4 years and even made a spot in the Sports Illustrated Magazine.
During her years, she worked as a nurse for Dr. Amrien and then as a nurse at ECI. Later in life, she made a career move to selling insurance and then, before retirement, owned a stellar farm named Pony Pines Farm. There, she met people who would become like family.
Lynn had many hobbies during her life, from karate and motorcycle riding to becoming a leader of Hoofs by the Beach.
Lynn was a member of Union Baptist Church and a member of the Daughter of Ruth Sunday School Class.
Her favorite hobby was attending sports events for her grandchildren, Todd and Lillie, especially softball and baseball games. She never missed a game, and even the 'away' games, she would always find a ride. She was SO proud of her grandchildren.
Lynn leaves behind her husband of 49 years, Donnie Ray Matthews; son, Aaron Matthews (Rhonda); grandchildren, Todd Matthews (his fiancé Alexis Hale) and Lillie Matthews; sister, Ruth Grundman (Bruce); sister-in-law, Lisa Duncan and Melissa Chance (Eddie); brother in law, Rick Matthews (Laura Kerbin) several nieces, nephews, and cousins,
She was predeceased by her brother, Kenny Butler.
A service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Union Baptist Church on Chincoteague Island, VA.
