Mr. Randell S. "Spike" Speidel, 88, of Wallops Island, VA. passed away Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at his residence.
Randell was born in Frackville, PA on January 9, 1921, the son of the late Walter and Agnes (Williams) Speidel.
"Spike" served as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers in 1974. He was an avid sailor, a model train enthusiast, a carpenter and great boat builder.
He was predeceased by his wife Josephine and their daughter Irene Dize. He is survived by a son Bill Speidel and his wife Jane of Chincoteague, VA; a daughter Katherine Hill of Wattsville, Va; Two brothers, Chester Speidel of PA and Jack Speidel and his wife Ann of PA; sister Ruth Buzzelli of PA; Seven grandchildren, Randy Mills and wife Kim, Danny Mills, Karla Quillen and husband David, Kelly Fox and husband Bill, Jesse Speidel and wife Valerie, Pamela Marshall and husband Travis and Nicholas Hill,14 great-grandchildren,1 great-great-grandchild. and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Noon from the Kingdom Hall of Jehaovah's Witnesses on Lankford Highway in Parksley, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzeimer's Association Southeastern VA Chapter Norfolk, VA 23502 .
