After a long illness, Rick Taylor, went home to be with the Lord, early Sunday morning, March 1,2009. A Chincoteague native, Rick, age 53, was devoted to his family and the community of Chincoteague Island. Many will remember him ringing the Salvation Army bell at H & H Pharmacy every Christmas even through the worst days of his illness.
For more than 25 years, he worked for Wanda and Donnie Ray Thornton at Pine Grove Campground. He was a member of the Union Baptist Church and the Ready Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Wendy Fagan Taylor, originally of Sayre, PA. Predeceased by his mother and father, Cynthia and Richard Taylor and by his nephew, Elijha Barrett., Rick will be greatly missed by his sisters, Vivian Bradds of Chincoteague, Amy Carter & her husband, Billy Carter, of Chesapeake; by his brothers, Gary Taylor and his wife, Dee, of Chincoteague , Jerry Taylor and his wife, Janie, of Harrolsburg, KY; his uncle, Mike Taylor of Delaware, and by his nieces and nephews, Joshua Barrett and Rita Barrett of Chincoteague and William Carter of Roanoke, VA, Taylor Hoppe of Albany, NY, Emmalee Hoppe of Albany, NY, Eric Fagan of Philadelphia, PA, Julie Fagan of Philadelphia, PA, Camryn Mentzer of Churchville, PA and Griffin Mentzer of Churchville, PA and by his grand-nieces, Skylynn Barrett, Dazey Barrett and Allie Ann Barrett. and grand-nephew, Kyle Barrett of Chincoteague, and mother-in-law, Yvonne M. Fagan of Philadelphia, PA. He will be missed by many loving friends and by his faithful dog, Yankee.
Viewing for family and friends will be at Salyer's Funeral Home on Friday between 7 and 9 p.m. There will also be a viewing at Union Baptist Church at I p.m. Saturday for those unable to attend Friday evening. Funeral services will be at Union Baptist Church at 2 p.m. followed by internment at Daisey Cemetery and a reception will follow in the Activities Building at the church.
