Robert R. Hurdle, 89, of Chincoteague Island, VA, passed away Monday, September 12th, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, MD.
Robert was born in Chincoteague Island, VA, on December 14, 1921, the son of the late Violet (Reynolds) and Bonard S. Hurdle.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, American Legion Post # 159, and Accomack Masonic Lodge #243 on Chincoteague Island, VA . He served in the U.S. Navy and retired as a master mechanic from NASA.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jo Hurdle of Chincoteague Island, Va; three children, Rebecca Raven and her husband Howard of New York, Jane Castle and her husband David of Delmar, MD, Austin Smith and his wife Teresa of Chincoteague Island, VA; eight grandchildren, Beth Kaminski and her husband John, Robert Tabor and his wife Annie, Jason Raven and his wife Soraya, Jeremiah Raven and his wife Karen, Paul David White of NC, Patrick Smith and his wife Olha of Salisbury, MD, John Smith of Chincoteague Island, VA, Jackie Fox and her husband Gary of Atlantic, VA; fourteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Barney Hurdle.
Friends are invited to call Wednesday 7-9 PM. at Salyer Funeral Home, Inc. in Chincoteague Island, VA, where a lodge service will be held at 7:30 PM.
Funeral Service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, Chincoteague Island, VA, at 2 PM on Thursday, September 15th, with Rev. Travis DeLoach officiating.
Interment will be held at John W. Taylor Memorial Cemetery, Temperanceville, VA.
