On Friday, April 1, 2022, Robert Joseph (Bob) Pauls, loving husband and father of six, passed away at the age of 89 surrounded by loved ones.
Robert was born on March 10, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA to Ignatius (Nick) and Katherine V. Pauls. He graduated from West Catholic HS where he was sports editor of the newspaper. He attended Drexel University, studying mechanical engineering before enlisting into the US Army, when he was stationed in Korea as a radio specialist. Robert worked for decades as a supervisor at AT&T Long Lines. On November 5, 1960, he married Mary L Getz. They raised six children together. When he retired in 1988, at the age of 55, Bob and Mary moved to their beloved Chincoteague Island, where he could be surrounded by the nature and wildlife he loved so much, which included fishing, hunting and boating.
Bob will be remembered for his wide breadth of knowledge and very dry sense of humor. He loved doing crossword puzzles, watching sports and keeping up with the news. He was an avid outdoors man, and had a special place in his heart for all the many dogs he owned throughout his life. He believed in having his voice heard and voted in every yearly election from the time he was 18 years old. Bob was elected as a Eucharistic Minister, and with his wife, Mary, they were active in the St Thomas Moore parish in Allentown where they participated in faith-filled retreats and hosted a Vietnamese refugee family. After moving to Chincoteague, Bob and Mary became involved members in St Andrew’s parish. He also loved to watch his beloved Philadelphia sports teams, as well as his favorites, Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune on television from his comfy armchair.
Robert was preceded in death by his dear wife, Mary, brother-in-law, Rev Monsignor Robert Getz, granddaughter, Ashley, and son-in-law, Stanley Heleva. He is survived by his brother, Richard (Carol), sister, Barbara Gambrill (Steve Marino), sister-in-law, Bonnie Daulerio (Mike), his children, Michelle, Gretchen Prince (Jack), Kara Sorrentino (Nick), Adrienne Cooper (Dennis), Bobby, Steven (Alyssa), grandchildren, Katrina Duva, Oskar Duva, Felicity Kiskeravage (Alex), Ivand Cooper, Hayden Sorrentino, Jonah Cooper, Dario Sorrentino, Asher Cooper, Chloe Pauls, Crede Cooper, Astrid Heleva, Apirida Cooper and great-grandson, Warren Joseph.
A service for Robert will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022, 11:00am at St. Andrew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 6288 Church Street, Chincoteague, Va. 23336. The interment will immediately follow service at columbarium outside.
