Robert Wessells Obituary

Robert Lee (Bob) Wessells, 84, husband of Hazel Tyndall Wessells, passed away peacefully at their residence on Thursday, May 26, 2011. Bob was born on Chincoteague Island, January 2, 1927, and was the son of Cecil S. and Pauline Booth Wessells. He was predeceased by sisters Margaret Ann Wessells and Persis E. Potts, and brother Donald E. Wessells. Bob was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, member of the American Legion, and a veteran of World War II, serving in Japan with the United States Occupational Forces. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service having served faithfully for approximately 35 years. During his retirement, Bob enjoyed spending time with family and traveling. Walking and biking the trails on Assateague Island with friends was another of his favorite pastimes. Bob was an avid reader, and had a love of the English language, which he shared with his children and grandchildren. Music was a special part of his life, and he always enjoyed sharing a good joke. To his family and many others who knew him, he will always be remembered as a wonderful father and grandfather, loving husband, and honorable man.
Other than his devoted wife of 61 years, Bob is survived by his son William G. (Jerry) Wessells and his wife Donna, Wallops Island, VA, daughters Mary Ellen Robins and her husband Claiborne, Richmond, VA, and Sherry W. Kleckner, Wallops Island, VA; grandchildren Laura Waisner and her husband, Brian, Colorado Springs, CO, Megan Moore, Gloucester, VA, Lee Kleckner and Erin Eberhart, Pittsville, MD, Hartley Robins, Richmond, VA, and Mark Robins, Richmond, VA; great-grandchildren Taylor Derwin, Ava Kleckner, and Emily Waisner; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, officiated by Rev. Travis Deloach, will be held Sunday, May 29th at Christ United Methodist Church, Chincoteague, VA, at 2 p.m.,with an visitation a hour before the service from 1-2 p.m. Interment will be held at John W. Taylor Memorial Cemetery, Temperanceville, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church Expansion Fund, 6253 Church Street, Chincoteague, VA 23336.
