CWO Roy L. Daisey, USCG Ret.

Roy L. Daisey, age 93 and a resident of Salisbury, MD since 2003 passed away at Hartley Hall in Pocomoke, MD on January 27, 2010 after a short illness brought on by a fall. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Oneida Beebe Daisey, a sister Melva Elliott of Chincoteague, VA, a sister-in-law Jean B. Daisey, a nephew C. Ray Daisey of Pocomoke, his wife Maureen, and their children Emma and James, and a niece, Lynn Capra of Chesapeake, VA, her husband Lou and their sons Josh, Jonathan and Joel. "Uncle Roy" as he was known to everyone in the family was a kind and trustworthy man, a good neighbor and always ready with a smile and good advice. Prior to moving to Salisbury he was a resident of North Springfield, VA for 43 years.
Born on May 9, 1916 Roy joined the U.S. Coast Guard two weeks after graduating from High School in 1934. He retired from the Guard as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1960 with 26 years. In that same year he moved from the Guard to working at NASA in Washington, DC where he remained until his final retirement in 1976. After retiring, Roy enjoyed travel, golf, woodworking and was a self-taught very accomplished artist. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patricia Ann in 1940, his brother-in-laws N. Emmett Daisey in 1976 and William Elliott in 2009, and by his two best friends, Cecil Sills in 2004 and Harold Elsberg in 1996.
Roy was a member of Accomack Lodge #243 A.F. & A.M. in Chincoteague, VA. He was also a member in Northern Virginia of the Royal Arch, the Commandery, the Scottish Rite, Kena Temple Shriners and the Royal Order of Jesters where he served as Director. One of Uncle Roy's joys in life was children and being a Shriner gave him the opportunity to be the bus driver to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Philadelphia.
Roy is a Christian and a member of Union Baptist Church in Chincoteague. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, January 28 at Salyer Funeral Home, Chincoteague from 7 pm to 9:00 pm.
