Ruth H. Bitner,84, of Chincoteague Island, VA, passed away Friday, May 27th, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake, Salisbury, MD.
Ruth was born in Chincoteague Island, VA, on January 3, 1927, a daughter of the late Lottie (Clark) Howard Lewis and Wilburt Howard.
She was a member of Union Baptist Church, Rainbow Sisters Sunday School Class, Chancel Choir, Ladies Choir, and WMU. She was very involved in her church family and will be greatly missed. She was also a member of the Retired Women of NASA. She was a Telephone Operator for NASA and operator for the early telephone system on Chincoteague many years ago.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years,Louis Bitner of Chincoteague Island, VA; two daughters, Carol Birch and her husband Jay of Chincoteague Island, Va, Valerie Baker and her husband Stewart of Chincoteague Island, VA; six grandchildren, Robin Taylor and her husband Edwin, Shannon Jones, Timothy Baker and his wife Lisa, Brandon Baker, Chris Birch, and Josh Birch; ten great grandchildren, Kyle, Chelsea, Kristen, Maranda, Hunter, Gary, Chandler, Whitney, Shaida, and Stephen; one great great grandchild, Carter; one brother John Henry Howard and his wife Debbie of Chincoteague Island, Va; many nieces,nephews, and cousins.
Friends are invited to call Sunday 7-9 PM. at Salyer Funeral Home, Inc., Chincoteague Island, VA.
Funeral Service will be held at Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague Island, VA, at 2 PM on Monday, May 30th, with Rev. Kevin Eley officiating.
Interment will be held at John W. Taylor Memorial Cemetery Temperanceville, VA.
