Samuel Wade Duffee, 80, of Selma, North Carolina, passed away at his home on Friday, January 31, 2025. Sam was born on November 15, 1944, in Langdale, Alabama, the son of Clarence Wade Duffee and Mae Helen Lane Duffee. He graduated from Valley High School in 1963, then joined the United States Air Force, serving until his honorable discharge in 1967. Samuel married Geneva Loudell on June 5, 1970. The couple lived in Alabama before moving to Virginia with their three children: Bill (Kim), Laina, and Kammie (Matt). They were lovingly married for 19 years until her passing on January 1, 1990. Sam found love again and married Roberta, who stood by him with unwavering support and affection for 32 years along with daughter, Paula (Phillip), and son, Jonathan. They shared many cherished years together as a family. He served at NASA Wallops Flight Facility as an electronics technician for 35 years. Sam was passionate about many activities, including gardening, raising chickens, caning chairs, creating stained glass lamps, singing with the Peninsulaires Barbershop Chorus, and enjoying outdoor activities like fishing, crabbing, clamming, frog gigging, and sailing. A member of Union Baptist Church, Sam attended the Angler Sunday School class. He loved singing in the Chancellor Choir. Remaining to cherish Samuel’s memory are his spouse, Roberta; children Bill (Kim), Laina, Kammie (Matt), Paula (Phillip), and Jonathan; many nieces and nephews; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mae Helen, his beloved wife, Loudell, and eight siblings. A service will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Union Baptist Church, 6365 Church Street, Chincoteague, VA 23336. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Samuel Wade Duffee’s memory may be directed to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
