Sarah Elizabeth Brasure (nee Jester) passed away on February 24, 2010 at the age of 85. For the past three years, she had been a resident of the Wicomico County Nursing Home in Salisbury, Maryland. She was the wife of the late Carroll James Brasure and mother of three children, Cheryl Marshall (Jack) of Salisbury, Stephen Brasure (Wendy) of Wilson, NY and David (Lynn) of Northport, FL and grandmother of six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Emily Niblett and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers William Jester and Louis Jester.
Born in Chincoteague, VA on February 17, 1925 to the late Virginia Scott Merritt and Jesse Jester and spent her childhood on Chincoteague. During WWII, she worked in Baltimore, MD. After returning to Chincoteague, she met Carroll Brasure, who had served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the war, and they were married on June 1, 1946. A few years later, Carroll re-entered the Coast Guard and they began their 26 years as a military family. During this time, they enjoyed tours of duty in Portsmouth, VA, Honolulu, HW, Buffalo, NY, Norfolk, VA, New York City, NY and San Juan, Puerto Rico. As a young military mother, she was active in the Coast Guard Wives Club, as well as managing the home front and taking care of their children while Carroll spent a considerable amount of time out at sea on Coast Guard cutters. For many years, she attended Episcopal churches and was active as a choir member and alter guild member. After Carroll's retirement, they resided in Salisbury, MD and Venice, FL before returning to Salisbury in 1996. Sarah enjoyed traveling and she enjoyed trips to England, Ireland and Scotland. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed reading about the royal family of England as well as many types of novels and books.
Friends and family are invited to call on Monday, March 1 from 7-9 PM at the Salyer Funeral Home, 6327 Chuch Street, Chincoteague, Virginia. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 2, 2010 at 2 PM at the Salyer Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Eley officiating. Internment will be at the Greenbackville Cemetary (VA). Flowers accepted or doantions may be made to the charity or church of your choice.
