Shannon Schuhart Obituary

Shannon Quin Schuhart, age 50 from Chincoteague Island, Virginia passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021.

He was born in Aurora, Colorado and lived in Rochester, New York and Ocala, Florida before traveling the world with the United States Navy. Serving aboard the USS Mahan DDG-42 during the Gulf War was one of his proudest accomplishments. After leaving the Navy, Shannon moved to Elkton, Maryland to work at his brother’s business. It was there that he met his future wife, who happened to be his beloved niece’s “daycare lady”. After a few years of pursuit, persuasion and persistence he finally gave up trying to escape and married her. They celebrated their 24th Anniversary earlier this year.

Shannon settled in Elsmere, Delaware where he was employed by CitiSteel, USA for many years before accepting a job with AAA Mid-Atlantic as a tow truck operator. He truly enjoyed his co-workers and the variety of vehicles he got to work on. He was so friendly and helpful that he earned the nickname “Hollywood” after being selected to represent AAA on a Good Morning America segment in 2016. He loved to bore his wife with endless tedious descriptive details of the vehicles he saw and the process he undertook to get them back on the road.

In 2019, they fulfilled their dreams and moved to Chincoteague Island, where he and his wife had honeymooned. He began working with Chincoteague Resort Vacations as an Independent Contractor where he loved help homeowners and vacationers with anything he could. He did everything from cleaning out houses, power washing, repairing screens, changing light bulbs to fixing toilet seats. He enjoyed figuring out a solution if he didn’t already know how to fix something, Google & YouTube were his best friends. The flexible work schedule afforded him time to enjoy some out of work activities like bike riding, kayaking, and even re-organizing his immaculate garage.

Shannon enjoyed being outside and finding things around the house to repair or work on – also known as “piddling” around. He was passionate about music – he loved to sit and listen to rock and finding new bands or songs. Many times he would share a special song with his wife that would express what he couldn’t put into words. His favorite bands were Pearl Jam and Shinedown, and many of their songs had special meanings to him. He was a sports enthisiast– especially football. He loved cheering on Notre Dame and the University of South Carolina and was a die-hard Denver Bronco’s fan.  He always cherished the day in 2016 when he touched the turf at the Mile High Stadium (even after being told he was not allowed to). Shannon loved to laugh and was known for coming up with one-liners that would crack himself up, even if no-one else laughed.

His biggest passion was his son. They had a unique bond from the very beginning and the love ran deep. Shannon never missed a baseball or football game and loved teaching him about cars, sports and life. They enjoyed doing things together like fishing, kayaking, goofing off or just watching tv. You could always see how proud he was of his son, and Shannon never smiled as big as he did when he saw him arrive home from college.

He is survived by his treasured wife, Janet Arnold Schuhart and cherished son, Jesse Braden Schuhart both of Chincoteague, Virginia. He is also survived by his sister Suzan Zito of Rochester, New York and his brother Chris Colligan (Nancy) of Elkton, Maryland and his two nieces Jodi Eddington (Brian) of Pompano Beach, Florida and Melissa Colligan of Newark, Delaware. He also leaves behind his father-in-law John Arnold and five sisters-in-law, Linda Crusco, Sharon McCubbin, Donna Jones, Brenda Veale and Nancy Lackford, their spouses and many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his closest friends, Matt Wilson, Jeff Kirkland, Chris “Fou” Boyce, Dan McGlamery and Justin Hurst all with whom he shared many fun times and shenanigans.

Shannon was predeceased by his father, Richard Schuhart; his mother, Monica Reed; and his brothers Tom Colligan & Dan Colligan.
