Theodore "Ted" Layton Johnson

Theodore Layton "Ted" Johnson, 77, of Milford, DE passed away July 12 at his daughter's home in Chincoteague, VA after a short courageous battle with cancer.  Ted was born in Milford on November 28, 1945, the son of the late Horace C. Johnson and Carrie B. Johnson.

     He is survived by his daughter Christy Gers, her husband Frederick Gers IV; two grandsons, Jayson Stubbs and Frederick Gers V of Chincoteague, VA; brother H. Terry Johnson and his wife Becky of Millsboro; sister-in-law Patricia Tifft of Chincoteague, and brother-in-law Henry Tifft and wife Pat of Seaford.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Geraldine Sue Tifft Johnson.

     Ted was a graduate of Harrington High School and the University of Delaware College of Agriculture.  He served in the Army National Guard.  After retiring from the Delaware Dept. of Agriculture, he enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, harness racing, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the United States Trotting Assoc., Harrington High School Alumni Assoc., American Legion Post 28, and Harrington Moose Lodge 534.

A visitation will be held at 11:00 am Monday, July 17, followed by a service at noon at Slaughter Neck United Methodist Church, Argo's Corner, Milford.  Burial will be in the adjoining churchyard. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory may be made to Horsemen's Welfare Trust Fund, c/o Delaware Standardbred Owners Assoc. 830 Walker Square, Dover DE 19904.  Services Entrusted to Salyer's Funeral Home, Inc.
