Thomas Brent Hickman

Thomas Brent Hickman, 54, of Atlantic, VA, passed away on March 19, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on July 25, 1968, to James  Hickman and Irene (Annis) Timmons in Salisbury, MD. He was a native of Chincoteague, VA and the island held a special place in his heart.
He was proceeded in death by his father James Harvey Hickman, his mother Irene Annis Timmons, and his stepfather William Edward Timmons.
“Brent” is survived by his wife DeAnna Lee Hickman, their son William Robert Hickman, and his brother James (Lori) Hickman.  He was also very close to his extended family and enjoyed reminiscing and spending time with his aunts, uncles, godparents, and cousins.  He was particularly fond of his nephews and nieces and loved them as if they were his own children.
Most of his friends he had known since childhood, but he was always happy to meet and chat with new people.  He was the perfect example of someone who never met a stranger.  Although he had lots of friends, his very best friend was his dog Chewy who was always there to cheer him up and make him smile.
Brent was lucky to have two families, the other being his brothers and sisters in law enforcement.  He joined the Town of Chincoteague’s Police Department in August of 2005 and retired as a Sergeant in December of 2017.  He was proud to serve in his hometown and was eager to volunteer in the department’s charitable events.  
Brent’s work and hobbies often intermingled.  He loved carving and painting and always tried to donate one of his decoys to the Chincoteague Police Department’s Annual Poker Run for the Kids.  He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with both his biological and law enforcement families. Brent was happiest fishing from the beach, sitting in a deer stand, or hiding in a duck blind. His favorite color was “camo.”
Brent passed peacefully surrounded by the love of his family.  A graveside funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 23, 2023, at the Parksley Cemetery.  Friends and family may be received at 3378 Main Street, Chincoteague, VA following the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Chincoteague Police Department to support the Annual Poker Run for the Kids.
