Virginia B. Barrett

Virginia B. Barrett, 96, of Chincoteague Island, VA passed away on February 7, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  

She was born on Chincoteague Island, VA on February 18, 1926, to the late Roland and Edna (Jester) Booth.  She was married to Mark S. Barrett for 59 years who preceded her in death in 2002. She was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church on Chincoteague Island.  

Virginia loved everyone, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family will always remember her unconditional love for them and all the wonderful meals she loved to prepare, especially the Sunday dinners after church.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Nancy L. Tolbert of Chincoteague Island, VA; son, Mark R. Barrett and his wife Sandy of Chincoteague Island, VA; two grandsons, Vincent E. Tolbert and his wife Cheryl of Snow Hill, MD; Jamie L. Tolbert and his lifelong partner Billy King of Chincoteague Island, VA; two step-granddaughters, Jackie Holloway and Lorie Barrett of Chincoteague Island, VA; three great-grandchildren, Joseph, Nicholas and Lauren Tolbert of Snow Hill, MD; four step-great-grandchildren, Maddie and Jonathan Holloway and Noel and Jackson Barrett all of Chincoteague Island, VA; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, eight siblings, and a son-in-law, Vincent T. Tolbert II.  

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 2:00 pm with a visitation an hour prior from 1 pm to 2 pm at the Salyer Funeral Home, Inc., Chincoteague, VA, with Rev. Dr. Kevin Eley, officiating.

Burial will take place immediately following the service at the Thornton Cemetery on Chincoteague Island, VA.
